Around the World in Story Tales

15th Dec 2015

Primary 6/7 pupils travelled to W5 in Belfast on Wednesday 18th November for the official launch of the "Around the World in Story Tales" programme.  This is a programme funded by DENI and the British Council.  Our Primary 6/7 class is one of only seven Key Stage 2 classes to have been successful in gaining a place on the programme.  The class has been paired with a language assistanct from Germany.  During the visit to W5 the children met their language assistant and got to learn about the culture, language, places and food in Germany.  They also got to explore the W5 exhibition and had lots of fun in the Climb It facility.

On Tuesday 8th December, our language assistant returned to school along with Elaine Steele from W5 and Michael, an artist.  The children got to delve deeper into German culture, sampling some delicious home-baked biscuits, listening to and singing German songs, playing traditional German games and listening to a traditional fairytale set in Germany.  They also developed their understanding of Global Citizenship and learnt how artists create drawings for comics, working through the many stages to produce their own drawing of a superhero.

Next the children in P6/7 will be working hard to produce a comic, set in Germany, which reflects what they have learnt about Germany and about Global Citizenship.  They will use the techniques they learned with Michael to draw their own pictures.  Elaine will be returning in the New Year, once we have written our comics, to help us produce animated versions using iPads and then in March we will all return to W5 to find out who the winner for the best comic will be, both in our class and overall.
