Dunluce Taster Day

22nd Jan 2015

On 22nd January, Primary 7 attended a taster day in Dunluce.  We were given a very warm welcome by the staff and listened to a Welcome talk from the principal, Mr Smyth.  After this, under the guidance of Alma, we were taken around different classes.  We all got to participate in a PE lesson playing basketball, then we attended Technology and Design where we made keyrings out of plastic.  We had to use saws, files and wet and dry paper to make sure our keyrings were cut to size and were smooth.  Next we attended a music lesson.  This was great fun as we got to have an indoor snowball fight followed by some class composition using drums, bells and woodblocks.  The next class was Science.  We conducted an experiment using calcium and hydrochloric acid which, when we added a flame to it, gave a loud pop!  The science teacher then made a huge fireball by lighting a balloon filled with gas.  Our final class was Art in which we made thaumatropes which are 2 sided spinners with pictures which merge into one when spun.  The day was topped off with a beautiful lunch.  We would like to say thanks to Mr Smith and all the staff at Dunluce for an absolutely wonderful day!
